Things Not to Say to Girls
Donna Mackenzie

What’s it all about?

Things Not To Say To Girls is about bringing women together to celebrate the strength, resilience, humour, intelligence, talents, similarities and wonderfully chaotic differences that make us who we are

It’s a space to laugh at the ridiculous things women hear every day, share stories, swap eye-rolls, and realise just how universal some of these experiences really are
At its heart, this project is about turning moments that once made us feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, angry or “not enough” into connection, empowerment, solidarity and a damn good laugh

I’m celebrating just how fricking amazing we all are as individuals, how we grow through both the good and the bad, and how our experiences shape us into resilient, complicated, hilarious, strong women
This project was developed from a place of personal pain, at a time when I truly felt like I wasn’t enough
As many of us know, words can stay with you
But through growth, healing, perspective, laughter, and the support of incredible women around me, I’ve worked to become one million miles away from that feeling

Now I want to turn those experiences into something positive
Something empowering
Something honest
Something that makes us laugh until we snort tea out of our noses

Most of all, I hope this project reminds women how powerful it can be to share stories, support each other, and realise we were never alone in the madness
Its an opportunity to share some love and do some good… I want you to be part of it!
The aim is to create a hilarious and empowering book filled with eye-rolling, ridiculous, painfully relatable things women have heard throughout their lives

But underneath the humour, this project is also about connection, resilience, growth, and female empowerment

Most importantly, I hope it can raise much-needed awareness and funds for women-focused charities and programs supporting women who deserve opportunities, safety and a chance to thrive

I’m aiming to support at least one charity through this project, hopefully even more!

What do I want from you?
I'm looking for eye-rolling quotes that have been said to you!

They could be from a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, work mate… or even a complete stranger. Something that made you laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of it, cringe internally, or instantly think:

“You really shouldn’t say that to a girl.”

This project is not about upsetting anyone or bringing up deeply painful experiences. I’m looking more for the kinds of comments you’d laugh about with your friends over a cuppa, wine, or voice note afterwards

So speak to your friends, swap stories, dig out the ridiculous comments you’ve heard over the years — and most importantly, HAVE FUN
